You can get a glimpse of an antique by asking for a quote or asking for an item to be appraised.
The price you pay will depend on the value of the item, the condition and the condition of the piece.
Antique auctioneers will usually try to negotiate the price before you walk in.
Ask for a listing to be made online before you visit.
“You should be able to see a quote before you buy the piece,” says Mr Taylor.
“The real estate agent or a professional appraisal can get you an estimate of what the value is for the piece, and they’ll also check to make sure that the appraisal has gone through,” he says.
“In most cases they’ll give you a discount if you buy in bulk.”

Find an antique store in your area that sells antiques through online auctions.
“If you go to an antique auction online, you can buy it for a very reasonable price and get a good price on it,” says Ms Tannock.
If the auctioneer has already sold the piece online, check the value online before purchasing it.
“We have found that some of the prices on online auctions are much higher than what we see on the property,” she says.
If that’s the case, it’s important to ask about the condition.
“For the most part, antiques are quite good quality,” she adds.
“Some of them are fairly old, but they’re quite functional and there’s no damage to the piece.”

Antique antiques can make a big difference to the home, especially if you have an outdoor space.
“When I bought my first home, my garden was in the back,” says Miss Taylor.
It’s where she had the most space to work and relax.
“I thought that was a great place to put an antique,” she recalls.
“Once I had it up there, it was just a beautiful space.”
“When you have it up on the wall, you get an aesthetic effect and you can do a lot more work, and it looks like you’re working,” she continues.
“But then when you put it down, it just looks like it’s not really being worked on.”
Antics can also make a difference to a house if it has a garage.
“Sometimes people forget about a garage,” she warns.
“Just remember that it has to be accessible for people to use it, and to park it.
If it’s locked up, people can’t park it.”
